Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on the floor finish you are looking at and whether you intend to install the ScreedBoard prior to drylining. It is important that all aspects of the wall treatment are isolated from the floor. For ease of installation, Cellecta manufacture various flanking strip sizes. Should you only need to isolate the skirting board then FS30 is the most suitable. Should you need to isolate the plasterboard and skirting then FS50 will be more suitable. Finally for areas where vinyl is being installed the specially designed FS15 can be utilised.

The ScreedBoard 20 as an exceptional level of tolerance and therefore can take a multitude of floor finishes. You will need to prime and seal the board with Cellecta MP60 Primer before installing the tile adhesive.

Once dried, you can then bond tiles directly to the ScreedBoard. For any natural stone tiles, your installer may require a de-coupling layer to aid with natural movement in the tile.

Cellecta’s XFLO Micro TB utilises our ultra-strength, 500kPa insulation routed to suit your underfloor heating pipe. The board also has tile membrane to ensure an exceptional bond for tiles or wooden flooring. Starting at 15mm the board offers a very minimal increase in the overall floor height whilst having very good resistance to downward heat loss.

DECKfon ULTRAmat 15 is a high density composite mat, that improves both airborne and impact performance of a floor where it is not possible to upgrade the ceiling. This is a floating layer that does not need to be fixed to the timber floors therefore negating the risk of damaging your existing floorboards.

Due to the natural expansion of chipboards we recommend that the insulation and chipboard are bonded. If installed in separate layers, the movement of the chipboard can create squeaking. We would always advise the use of HEXATHERM XCHiP, manufactured utilising our outstanding XPS insulation bonded to chipboard, which will alleviate the risk of friction noise.

If overlaying with an underfloor heating system or using a 40mm anhydrite screed, it is acceptable to butt joint the YELOfon HD10+ before taping this joint with YELOfon J-Strip. Care must be taken to not leave any gaps that screed can migrate through and it is good practice to install a 500 gauge DPM in this instance. In all other applications you will need to overlap the YELOfon HD10+ by 150mm following the markings on conveniently printed on the rolls for ease of installation.

ScreedBoard 20 is typically specified over an underfloor heating application due to its low resistance, ultimately giving a more responsive and cost-effective underfloor heating solution that means you can have low flow temperatures in line with Future Homes Standards.

ScreedBoard 28 comprises our high-density gypsum overlay board and an 8mm FIBREfon fleece, making it an ideal solution for lightweight floors such as timber or metal joists. ScreedBoard 30 utilises a 10mm wood fibre, that is a higher compressive strength resilient layer for concrete floors.

Both products can be utilised in concrete Robust Detail applications under FFT4, whilst ScreedBoard 28 holds three proprietary RD’s – E-FS-3, E-FT-5, & E-FT-6.

ScreedBoard 20 would provide a weight saving off 125kg per m2 compared to a 75mm sand and cement screeded application.

ScreedBoard is 99% gypsum and as such contains no cement. The board can be cut with a circular or hand saw in well-ventilated areas. If using a circular saw, suitable dust extraction units and face mask should be used, please consult Cellecta’s SDS on our website.

Cement particle board when cut, produces a fine dust that contains silica, which is hazardous to the lungs. You may also need specialist blades for cutting such as diamond tipped.

YELOfon Flanking strips (FS) are required to isolate the ScreedBoard from the walls, drylining and any skirting. Manufactured in three profiles 15mm, 30mm and 50mm to suit varying scenarios and floor finishes. These profiled strips will help with easy and robust installation. To ensure you have the correct Flanking Strip for your requirements, please contact our technical team.

ScreedBoard shouldn’t be installed direct to joists as a non-structural board, however, Cellecta do have a portfolio of direct to joist products for acoustics and underfloor heating. Please contact our expert team for an alternative specification and to review your options.

It is always good practice to replicate movement joints in the fabric of the building through the acoustic treatment. Although ScreedBoard has an exceptionally low thermal expansion, it is also best practice to have expansion for runs exceeding 20m.

Some tiles may need an extremely low level of deflection, making HiDECK Structural an excellent product for accepting brittle floor finishes.

Prime and seal the HiDECK flooring using Cellecta MP60 primer. Once dried, you can then bond tiles directly to the HiDECK. For any natural stone tiles, your installer may require a de-coupling layer to aid with natural movement in the tile. For high load areas, it is advisable to bring the centres of the supporting timber closer under the HiDECK.

Yes, electric UFH can be installed directly onto the surface of a primed HiDECK and ScreedBoard.

Timbers should be installed at a maximum of 400mm centres beneath the HiDECK Structural.

The temperature of the board at the glue line will not affect the Cellecta Pro adhesive once cured

YELOfon HD10+ Surebond System carries 3 proprietary Robust Detail: E-FC-5, 17 & 18.

Where two joints of the HD10+ meet, overlap the resilient layer by 150mm (min) and seal with J-Strip to alleviate the risk of screed migration. For anhydrite screeds that are thinner in nature butt-jointing the HD10+ is acceptable, however, this should then be overlaid with a polythene sheet.

Yes, either install an insulation over the top, such as HEXATHERM XFLOOR to achieve the resistance required by building regulations or install a castellated tray to clip the pipes in to.

HD10+ should be installed at temperatures above 5°c. This is to aid with the adhesion of the J-Strip.

Thermal transmittance, also known as U-value, is the rate of transfer of heat through a structure (which can be a single material or a composite), divided by the difference in temperature across that structure. The units of measurement are W/m²K. Cellecta’s experienced technical team can quickly and easily run a U-value calculation for you.

Cellecta products are manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management system standard.

Cellecta products are manufactured under ISO 14001 environmental management system standard.

Cellecta DECKfon battens are FSC approved.

ScreedBoard 20 is manufactured using 100% recycled high density gypsum.

Yes, XPS can be recycled by melting and re-inserting it into the production of new extruded polystyrene foam insulation.

Cellecta can offer an acoustic cradle and batten to suit almost every situation. Generally, the maximum thickness will be 269mm, however, elements such as underfloor heating, batten centres and how uneven the floor is will all play a part in the specification. Cellecta’s technical team can ensure you are using the correct build-up for your onsite requirements.

XFLO Micro TB, has a reinforced face that can accept a tile directly without additional primers, however, the board is also compatible with most gritted primers such as the F. Ball P141 and Tilemasters Prime+ Grip.

Yes, CHiPFLO requires an additional overlay board. At 400mm joist centres this is typically a 6mm plywood or for superior outputs, Cellecta CEMdeck. For joist centres greater then 400mm and up to 600mm this overlay board should be 9mm.

insuBEAM requires a C28/35 structural concrete over the top, the minimum thickness and reinforcement required all depends on the usage of the floor. Please contact our insuBEAM department for full specifications.

Tarmac Topflow has also been tested and is covered under Cellecta’s third party accreditation.

U-values for ground floors rely on the perimeter and area of the ground floor. insuBEAM is designed to achieve low U-values in line with Part L of building regulations and can achieve as low as 0.08w/m2K.

Please contact our insuBEAM team who will run a U-value calculation and provide a system specific for your requirements.
